The Graphic Art scene in India has been exploding for the last decade. A culmination of accessibility to tools and a growing youth culture. The work spans a wide range of the visual arts from illustration, graphic design, typography, protest art, and zine culture to name a few. Bold, accessible, personal, and original this space is helping artists grow and make new pathways into the global art world.
In 2014, Kunal co-founded Kulture Shop, a community & ecosystem of global Indian graphic artists and a platform for their work to be recognised, appreciated and promoted around the globe through gallery/stores, exhibitions, and events.

Kulture Shop’s curation lens entails an eight-step process to evaluate work for the platform, highlighting originality and conceptual thought, while also looking for ways to help artists strengthen their visions. As Art & Design Director and Curator my aim was to galvanise the Indian graphic art scene and raise the bar of what we could expect from this new movement. By applying my curation knowledge and techniques we were able to unlock a wealth of rasising talent.

While developing and curating the exhibition the most prominent motif was the number 8. It holds many different symbolic and cultural values, from multiplicities to the order of cosmic balance and resurrection, the number is a metaphor leading a path of mystic significance into opportunities for the future: “The Eighth Dimension”. Crafted in the unique journeys of eight curated artists, we step into a portal of multimedia art and storytelling through the pivotal key of the Audi Q8 series, an evocative sensory journey across space and time.
As the Head Creative Consultant on this, I had to direct the installation, curate and communicate with artists and be the primary contact point for the agency.

INDERNET is an annual exhibition exploring parallels and interactions between digital and Indian culture. I have been a major part of the curation since its launch in 2018, showcasing over 50 artists over this period. For many of them, it was their first time exhibiting in an international space.
‘As a South Indian who grew up in Germany, the works speak to me from the heart; whether the representation of the Tiffin Towers or the Indian matryoshka - you have definitely hit the zeitgeist! I wish you continued success and hope to visit your exhibition next year too!’ - Annu, Exhibit Visitor
An exhibition of work by some of India’s leading contemporary graphic designers. It was one of the first opportunities to showcase the work of a wave of Indian designers, both emerging and established. Titled “Bold”, the exhibition displayed typography, posters, films, and digital media, coupled with passion projects, revealing the vibrancy of work underway in the Indian visual communications scene.
